Anyone who voted for Trump voted to make Russia, not America, great again.
For most now it’s hard to read anything but headlines, comfort news, Facebook posts or Tweets. Nicholas Carr explains why in his brilliant book The Shallows – What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains.
Anyone who cares about our country should read this piece in the Atlantic
Russia and the Threat to Liberal Democracy
and read this book by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, two former Politico Editors who spent years in Russia reporting on Putin
Kremlin Rising – Vladimir Putin’s Russia And The End Of Revolution
Because I endorsed Arn Menconi, I’m guilty of helping United Russia win our election too. Arn and his cadre of followers were being fed, according to the Atlantic,
“anti-Clinton propaganda by RT (Russia Today) which is not only one of the most widely watched (and heavily subsidized) global sources of state television propaganda—and which claims 70 million weekly viewers and 35 million daily— but a vast social-media machinery as well. Added to this is the hidden influence of a vast network of Russian trolls—agents paid to spread disinformation and Russian propaganda points by posing as authentic and spontaneous commentators”.
In short, the messaging that framed Hillary Clinton as an establishment and corrupt candidate was being fed to Americans by Russia.
By endorsing Arn, I was helping Russia elect Trump.
From the Atlantic piece:
“What began as a somewhat preposterous effusion of fake news reports spreading panic, for example, about an Ebola outbreak in the U.S., morphed into something more sinister, sophisticated, and profoundly consequential: a dedicated campaign to discredit Hillary Clinton and tilt the U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump. The army of Russian trolls started infiltrating U.S. media with conservative commentaries, playing up Clinton’s scandals and weaknesses, and widely diffusing other right-wing narratives against Clinton. The Russian government (America’s own intelligence agencies believe) hacked into the emails of the Democratic Party and of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and passed them on to Wikileaks to dispense in a devastating drip-drip-drip of divisive and unflattering revelations. In The Washington Post’s words, the campaign portrayed “Clinton as a criminal hiding potentially fatal health problems and preparing to hand control of the nation to a shadowy cabal of global financiers.” All of this gave Trump significantly more political traction while dispiriting and discouraging possible Clinton voters (many of whom simply stayed home in disgust). Given how close the U.S. election outcome was, it is easy to imagine that this intervention might have provided Trump with his margin of victory in the Electoral College”.
Putin is on his best day, a thug. He’s a brutal dictator who’s murdered journalists and a few million others. His plan is to take over Europe and establish Russia as an authoritarian state in full control. Donald Trump is nothing more than a pawn, who’s being used by Putin to complete his takeover plan. Rex Tillerson, Exxon CEO and Trump’s Secretary of State nominee, stands to make billions from Russia.
Trump and his cronies don’t care if millions of people are murdered by Putin. No. What they care about is their agenda. Look at Trump’s Cabinet appointees — they’re all either about big oil or big religion.
If you voted for Trump you voted for Russia and what Putin is about. You voted to let Putin run roughshod over the world. You voted to make Russia, not America, great again. You voted to make America less free.
I admit it, I didn’t see this coming. But I also don’t live in a bubble. I pay for journalism, as opposed to scanning free blogs. I buy and read books — as opposed to getting my news for free from Facebook or social. I’m not on social media.
Trump won Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania by a total of 70,000 votes. Give those states to Clinton and Clinton is President. Clinton won the popular vote by 2.7 million votes. No person capable of critical thinking can come to any other conclusion other than Russia’s influence handed the election to Trump. Why did Russia want Trump? Because Clinton is Russia’s enemy — as she should be. What was Russia’s motivation? Putin knows Trump is a chump. With Trump as President, Putin continues unimpeded towards his goal of taking over Europe.
A recent study showed the 75% of fake news was aimed at conservatives
Why conservatives might be more likely to fall for fake news
Fake news and information dominates the Internet now. Americans have lost the ability to side with the truth because there is no truth nowadays – there’s your bubble and theirs. Walter Cronkite must be rolling over in his grave.
The very future of our democracy is at stake here. What Russia did to us is an act of war. Instead, Rex Tillerson has been nominated for Secretary of State.
Oy.
