I’m so proud of my friend Arn Menconi. We’ve known each other since we moved up here 15 years ago.
Arn got fired from being the leader of S.O.S, what he founded, because he protested the war. He called me the night Vail Resorts called him, threatening to pull their funding from S.O.S because Arn was photographed protesting at the People’s Climate March in NYC. My family and I protested as well. Here’s the picture that got Arn canned
Then Arn turned his attention back to what he does best, action. Action is too simple of a word, though. Arn stands for what he believes in. Along the way, he’s willing to get arrested and make people really uncomfortable. Here’s Arn getting arrested at Senator Kerry’s hearing. Another of him getting arrested this past Monday, standing up for Standing Rock.
Arn means what he says and does what he means.
Here’s an interview with Arn last week on KDNK, a public radio station in Carbondale. They do good work at KDNK. Thank you KDNK, for giving Arn a voice.
Tonight Arn showed up at a fundraiser for Michael Bennet a block away from his home in Carbondale. The fundraiser was sponsored by Thompson Divide Coalition (TDC). I was down on TDC because I thought they were about themselves — stopping fracking in Carbondale but nowhere else. But after talking to Zane Kessler tonight, I’m hopeful. Zane called me a few minutes after midnight, we had a nice chat. Zane promised to talk to me more, I think I can connect with him.
Here’s Arn doing a live stream from the gig
