I wrote this to blackwellspace before tip-off tonight:
###
I’m not a LeBron guy. Never have been. But. I’ve learned some things about him that have changed my view of him. The last two games, he’s shown what a great player he is. I’m not ready to put him in the same sentence as Magic or Jordan, or Jerry West. But he’s great. IF, he’s as great as some writers say he is, the Cavs win tonight. I’m picking the Cavs. Because records are made to be broken (no team in the finals has ever come back from 3-1) and because my friend Dave, his wife and his dogs have LeBron jersey’s on right now. Dave is from Cleveland, he still cries over the Byner fumble when the Browns were going to beat the Broncos. And because Cleveland fans have suffered long enough.
###
Tonight I’m happy for Dave. I’m happy for Ohio. Because there’s a lot of places in Ohio that America has forgot about, where there’s abject poverty. In so many ways, what’s happened in Ohio is what’s wrong with our country. Unemployment is high, there’s a lot of heroin addiction. If you want to see the difference between the have’s and have not’s, go to rural areas of Ohio.
But now Cleveland and for that matter the state of Ohio, are in the winner’s circle. I couldn’t be any happier about it.
