It looks like we’re averaging right around $1000.00 a month to eat the way we do.
I found a report on some website that said the average American family spends $250.00 a week on groceries. Or about the same we do. So given that everything we eat is organic and beyond organic, that we don’t eat meat, dairy, or anything processed, that we make everything we eat, I think we’re doing pretty well.
Which brings back the question, “Does it cost more or less to eat this way”?
Right now today I wouldn’t say it costs less. But if it’s true that the average American family (btw. what’s a not average American family???) spends $250 bucks a week on groceries I wouldn’t say it costs more, either.
The big thing with eating this way is the time it takes to find your groove with cooking and the recipes you like.
When we started we were big fans of The PlantPower Way. Rich and Julie’s book was a great starter for us, which is what it’s intended to be. Since then, we’ve found that some of Rich and Julie’s recipes have too much oil and sugar. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great book. I highly recommend it to anyone starting out on this journey.
But right now, most of what Renee cooks comes from recipes we get from The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) or the Blue Zones Solution. Renee has her own recipes now, too.
If you donate to PCRM you get weekly recipes such as this one that came today:

It’s a great way to live, we dig it. We hope you find it too.
