A few comments. I gotta get some sleep, tomorrow is Highlands (always on Saturday).
Facebook is killing journalism, privacy, now Harald’s site. I thought Harald was more of a rebel than this. But this is akin to him bowing to the machine, totally out of character for him. I expected better.
Max, Botti, GeoffDa, those guys eat their own. They all wanted to put PMTS into their own little box. Botti is a liberal (or at least he was the last time I saw him), but he refused to see things other than his own way. That’s not, liberalism. Gore Vidal would be rolling over in his grave. The very definition of liberalism is the discussion of all thoughts.
Then, the way PMTS was taken over by them really pissed me off. Hell they threw me under the bus and I was the one who made SuperShapes popular. I was there before any of them. Harald even threw me under the bus because he thought I was crazy.
Harald’s first two books and Essentials are without a doubt, the very best books on skiing. He should have quit there. Instead, he mucked it all up.
When Harald first began PMTS was about balance, because skiing is about balance. In books 1 and 2, he gave us drills to learn balance. It wasn’t about looking like Harald — it was about learning to balance. I learned to balance on my edges by doing the drills. Then I applied those movements all mountain. Do I look like Harald? No. But all mountain skiing is about freedom. Books 1 and 2 were about all mountain skiing. What happened?
The weighted release, lift and tip, the pole swing, that’s PMTS in a nutshell. But instead of keeping it simple, it got all fucked up. I bitched at Harald about it. But when Botti showed up with his money, Max and GeoffDa showed up, everything started to break down.
Harald made a big mistake latching himself to the YC (Yellowstone Club). By doing so he went backwards, to a message that skiing is exclusive, for rich white people.
Then, he never should have let the bitching go on the way it did. Yes, epicski.com sucks. It’s nothing more than a wasteland of terrible information — and Republicans. Harald’s rage against the machine message, which was right on, got appropriated to a new message. The new message was about bitching and skiing on groomed runs. I was infuriated. It went on for years — it’s still going on.
Then this guy HelluvaSkier showed up with all his videos on groomed runs. PMTS was supposed to be about all mountain skiing. But then all the world saw were videos on groomed runs.
But the real deal killer was Max. My god. Every post he insults people. Meanwhile, Harald was kissing his ass. Max, more than anyone, fucked up the website. I can’t believe that anyone engages with him, he’s so arrogant and disrespectful.
Not only that, he’s not that good. I saw him at Abasin this year. I was like, “that’s what you got”? And he hasn’t changed his ski outfit in years.
There’s no doubt about it, Harald gave us all a lot. His videos are the bomb. The videos of him at Loveland skiing Abowl are some of the best all mountain skiing I’ve seen. I skied with Harald in his prime. I’ve not seen anyone close. When I’m off, I go watch his videos.
But where are the critics? Where are those to speak up for what’s happened? They should protest, that he’s threatening to close the site. Harald is acting like a Republican, what he hates the most. People should call him on his bs. That’s the problem, no one does.
I think Harald misses that PMTS is ours, as much as it is his. Instead, he let a few take over. That’s what Republicans do.
Facebook sucks. Social media is a social disease. Now Harald is part of the establishment, the very same thing he fought against??? Jeezus, Harald. Shake your head, your brain is stuck.
But everyone should fight against what’s still going on — the lies on epicski.com and now pugski.com. How? By telling skiers everywhere, where the goods are. The lift and tip is so powerful, anyone can learn it. Yes it’s true, most skiers just want to go out and make a few turns then go to apres. Fine. But there’s plenty more, who want to learn to ski the right way. I think it’s incumbent on all of us, those in the Force, to show skiers — for free. To show skiers Harald’s work. To break Harald’s work down so that anyone can learn it.
I know whenever I get the chance I tell skiers what I know. I finally got the chance to bring a skier along, a young guy. Now, he dominates at the Beav. I’m so happy about this. And, it didn’t cost my young friend a penny. So instead of images of the Yellowstone Club, let’s find skiers to bring along — show them the Force.
We’ve been lied to for years. The labeling on food, advertising, health care, you name it. All lies. We’ve been duped. It’s up to us to tell skiers where the truth is. It’s not on Facebook, it’s not on epicski.com or pugski.com. No, that’s the dark side. The truth is with other skiers, those of us who know. It’s in Harald’s videos, in his first 3 books.
I’m sorry to see what’s happened. It sucks. But it’s also an inflammatory and I can’t let that happen. Instead, I have to pray for inner strength and peace. I have to make peace with what’s happened. It’s not easy, I care so much.
We can’t let what Harald brought get appropriated or watered down. If he closes the site, start a protest against him going on Facebook. But don’t start the protest on Facebook. When he has camps, show up with signs protesting. Move your feet, way more than your mouth. Write letters, make phone calls.
Well, this doesn’t surprise me. I see our society braking down in so many ways. But I’m chagrined to see the fog enveloping Harald.
My comment was done to try and garner support for the forum as I enjoyed your posts and noted when you left and set up this blog site which I read from time to time. The forum remains the best forum for those wishing to ski better and gain an understanding of ski techniques. I endorse you positive comments about Harald and PMTS. I hold his body of work, and reputation as a teacher in the highest regard.
It wasn’t that I left the forum. I got kicked out. Probably, by Max. It Max’s view of PMTS or nothing.
Maybe it’s a good thing, if the forum goes away? It’s so f’d up now, no one but a few can stomach it.
But what won’t go away are HH’s teachings. I know I’ll keep passing it along.
But isn’t what’s going on in forum connected to bigger issues? Almost no one, seems to care about technique now. Instead, it’s all about the gear. Graphics, are what’s important. Look how the sport has been taken over by banana skis. How often is it that you see a skier who doesn’t stem to start their turn? How is it that see an instructor that doesn’t stem to start their turn?
No one went to jail in the crash. Our water is being poisoned. Donald Trump is popular. Monsanto wants to take over our food supply. The government is corrupt. Our heads are so buried in our phones, we can’t feel the moment. Everyone is after Likes. Facebook, has fucking 3 billion users. Now Harald wants to move his stuff to Facebook. Privacy is gone. If you’re not on the inside, you’re forever on the outside. People believe what they read on websites, journalism is gone. Epic, fucking ski dot com is popular.
Thanks Paulie – it’s similar but on a much smaller scale down here in New Zealand.
My discovery of PMTS and rediscovery of HH three years ago ( previously known from SKI and SKIING mags ) has given me a massive resurgence of interest in the sport of skiing which I have always loved . I am the same age as HH. Yes, I think that teaching and technique are really important and see it as a tragedy that so many don’t understand this.
For me it has always been about being in the mountains, and “skiing the whole mountain”. For me PMTS is a way to enhance this.
I’m really don’t know what the issues are behind the scenes beyond HH’s post. I have no great wish to engage, except to the extent that I would like to see an open and useful, but well moderated forum. For me if it closed I would lose something that I read most days and value greatly , but I would continue to try and develop my skiing along PMTS lines, espouse PMTS as a technique, and maybe attend a camp ? Austria one day.

See this post I just put up today:

And this is progress?
It really just comes down to the decline of our society. I saw it all happening on the forum years ago.
