Here’s a great piece Rolling Stone did on the Koch Brothers.
Okay, so you think I’m a liberal, homie. Right? You’re wrong. I’m a Progressive, not a liberal. I criticize liberals just as much as I do Republicans.
Here’s what I see as the Koch agenda.
1. They don’t want to pay any taxes.
I got no problem with that, I don’t like taxes either. Who does? What I’m against, is how they’re buying politicians (Democrats are doing it too), to lower their taxes. That’s not a democracy, folks.
2. They want to eliminate regulations so they can pollute with impunity.
They’re anti-regulations schtick has nothing to do with creating jobs. No, it’s all about getting rid of regulations so they can make more money and pollute without having to answer to anyone. Putting air filters in, disposing of waste properly, not doing damage to the soil is expensive and antithetical to profit — so they’d rather not a have any regulations in their way.
3. They’re about rigging the game in their favor.
They go on and on about freedom and liberty, what’s best for our country. Yeah, right. It’s all a subterfuge. They’re about making money, nothing else. They could care less if they pollute our air, food and water.
4. They want to eliminate unions so they can hold all the cards over their labor.
No one has to go to work for them, that’s true. Their “no unions” schpeel is really about cheap labor. It has nothing to do with what’s good for our country. And btw. I think they’ll come a time when we’ll miss the idea of unions.
5. They’re buying (bought?) their way into power.
One could make an argument that the Koch Brothers have more power than the President does. Today we have auctions, not elections. Again, that’s not a democracy. No one, left or right, should support the idea of corporate control over America.
6. They’re against public schools.
It’s really popular these days for Republicans to attack teachers and our public school systems. They all scream “charter schools”. There’s no credible evidence that charter schools churn out better test scores than public schools. None. What this is really about is business. Charter schools are created by private business. So the Koch’s plan is to create a web of lies about teachers and our schools, make them public enemy #2 (Obama is always public enemy #1) so they can make money building/funding charter schools.
I haven’t read anything I like about these guys. Not because I read liberal, left leading content. It’s because I know business and what I’ve read makes sense. Are they evil? Define evil. They’re about making money and that folks, is capitalism. It’s their right. I don’t agree with what they’re about. I can’t understand how those on the right support them, either.
